Privacy policy

Your quiz answers are processed in your browser and never sent to a server. You don't need an account to use Awachu. We only keep personal data you choose to type in: your email, if you subscribe to the newsletter, or an optional first name, if you create or answer a challenge.

• Anonymous results. When you finish a quiz we only record which result came up, with no identifier at all, to show aggregated stats (for example, "18% got this result").
• Friend challenges. If you create or answer a challenge, we store the optional first name you type, your result and the computed compatibility, so the people in that challenge can see it.
• Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email, language, date and the exact consent text you agreed to, as proof that you asked for it.
• Analytics. We use Plausible, which sets no cookies and doesn't store your IP address: it only gives us aggregated numbers, such as visits per page or how many people finish a quiz.
• Ads. If the site shows Google AdSense ads, Google may use cookies or identifiers to serve them and measure their performance. Where the law requires it, only with your consent.
• Affiliate links. If you click a link to Amazon, Amazon may use cookies to credit the purchase to us. To pick your country's store we use the approximate country of your connection, without storing it.

We use your browser's local storage to remember the light or dark theme, your progress in a quiz, your latest result and your cookie choice. This data never leaves your device and you can clear it in your browser settings.

• Running the site, the stats and the challenges: our legitimate interest in providing the service you asked for.
• Sending you the newsletter: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Personalized ads: your consent, where the law requires it. If you decline, ads may still appear, without personalization.

We don't sell your data. We work with providers that process it on our behalf: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery), Plausible (analytics), Google (ads) and Amazon (affiliate program). Some may process data outside your country, with the safeguards the law requires.

Challenges are kept while they remain useful to the people in them; you can ask us to delete one at any time. Your email is kept until you unsubscribe. After that we only keep the record of your consent and unsubscription, as legal proof, and we never email you again.

Depending on where you live (for example, the GDPR in Europe, PIPEDA in Canada or the CCPA in California), you can ask to access, correct, delete or port your data, or object to its use. Email us at hello@awachu.com and we'll reply within the legal deadline. Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

Awachu is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child gave us their data, email us and we'll delete it.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date on this page. If the change affects how we use your email, we'll let you know first.
